-Shit Jon says

The fact is, some people don’t agree with you. Life is not black and white, there are not only two sides to an argument, this one especially. You may see a fetus growing in the womb as a precious gift, but that fetus is still a part of the mother, only living because her body is allowing it to. We live in a complicated world, suffering from overpopulation, poverty, abuse, neglect, etc., and at times for some people, it would be better to not have a child brought up in these circumstances. That is the important part, is that this is the choice of the family, not you.

It is very gracious of you to allow us all the very important choice of which t.v. show we can watch, but people other than you are not happy with such decisions being the limit of their freedom.

I quoted scripture because I don’t have to believe in the bible for some of the messages to make sense, and it would be common ground since we would both know the book. I used that line specifically because I would have liked for you to realize that you are casting judgement on people who are making incredibly hard life decisions. You shouldn’t be judging other people when you are not a perfect being. You say you oppose abortion because it ends life…do you eat meat (ends life promptly) ? Do you use a computer (ends life by poisoning humans in the factory) ? Do you buy flowers from the store (again humans becoming sick and dying because of chemicals used)? I could go on, but if you truly support life, then please tell me you are not contributing to these things. That is what my scripture quote was about, you don’t even know the extent of the lives you have helped destroy, yet you cast your judgement on those who are at least real with it?

When you say that I accuse all christians of being the same, I was saying that all christians pick and choose from the bible to form their own belief system. It’s just the truth so there’s that. … And as you point out, yes I was definitely using the parts from the bible that appeal to me. But i also don’t have the obligation to try to make all the contradictions held within it fit with each other, since I equate the bible with a set of fables. I am free to do that.

I never claimed to know you, I only claim that you don’t understand the richness of human life. The decisions we must make are not always the happy ones, sometimes they are the ones that are for the best. And most importantly, these decisions are not yours to try to fight for. You are right that people who can’t handle having a baby shouldn’t be having sex, but you must realize we are animals with DNA designed to reproduce. It’s not as easy as you want it to be. Open your mind and look at the broader spectrum.”- Jon

“What Light Bulbs are made out of

Thoughts are strange things. What makes up an idea? We know that our the neurons in our brains are responsible for transmitting thoughts. We think that thoughts are caused by very quick firing of the neurons, across thousands of miles of nerve fibers. But what exactly IS a thought? How Am I sitting here, thinking of a thousand things at once? It is all quite mind numbing.

Human thought is especially intriguing. Not only do we have to live our day to day lives, going through survival motions, but we are forced by our brains to think about those motions. We are concious of our own efforts in third person, because we think about ourselves doing things. Our brains are the most complex pieces of machinery known to humankind, and they are all unique, more so than a fingerprint.

I want to dive deeper into this subject, but I must go be a busy person. I will catch up with this later, in the meantime, if you are reading this, think of how crazy it is that we are capable of being so aware of our own thoughts, and how that is kind of like a mirror faced with a mirror. We think of our thoughts, which were probably thinking of other thoughts, which may have been thoughts about other thoughts, and so on. I will continue this at a later date.”

You have no idea how much you inspire me.
